Thomas Canepa is an attorney with Cummins & Associates, Ltd. practicing corporate, transaction, M&A, and real estate law advising clients on corporate, governance, business, tax, transactions, intellectual property and operational matters. Representations include advising individuals, owners, business and corporate clients regarding business and corporate law matters, entity management and new venture formation, intellectual property ownership issues and planning, trade secret and intellectual property protection, rights and property interests related to copyright, trademark and related contract and property rights, and real estate matters. Mr. Canepa manages various litigation matters including federal, multi-state, and Illinois-based cases in contract, real estate, intellectual property and business law matters.

Mr. Canepa has counseled and participated in numerous entrepreneurial ventures including technology-oriented software companies, film, music and entertainment companies, manufacturing, distribution and industrial companies, and not-for-profit and social venture organizations. Mr. Canepa represents many local, state and national not-for-profit entities, churches and tax-exempt organizations with respect to their corporate, tax, real estate, intellectual property, governmental and operational matters.

Mr. Canepa has extensive real estate experience including residential, multi-tenant housing, construction, finance, agriculture, commercial and industrial real estate transactions and matters, and most recently, foreclosure defense litigation matters.

Previously, Mr. Canepa was a founder and partner in the law firm of Canepa & Cummins, PC, a law firm in partnership with Jack Cummins specializing in business start-ups, transactions, real estate, intellectual property and business law. Representations included business and real estate development matters including building and construction projects; condominium, multi-unit and subdivision development projects; technology, invention, and intellectual property venture start-ups including capital funding transactions.

Currently, Mr. Canepa is an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Leadership Studies program at North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, teaching a course on Social Impact Ventures.

Mr. Canepa received his law degree from The John Marshall Law School, in Chicago, Illinois, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison, majoring in Economics and Political Science. Mr. Canepa also attended a one-year international business and economics program at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mr. Canepa is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit; the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Central Districts of Illinois; and the Supreme Court of the State of Illinois.
